During this month, there will be more people speaking te reo M\u0101ori in public spaces like playgrounds, in shops, on public transport and in the workplace,\u201d says Ms Hippolite.<\/p><p>More than 3,000 people have registered for Mahuru M\u0101ori this year which is more than double the number of people who challenged themselves to speak te reo M\u0101ori during September last year. People can choose whether to commit to speaking M\u0101ori for the whole month, one week or one day a week.<\/p><p>Ms Hippolite says, \u201cIt is fantastic to see the growing number of people committed to learning and speaking te reo M\u0101ori including those who have signed up for Mahuru M\u0101ori.<\/p><p>\u201cInitiatives like Mahuru M\u0101ori provide a great boost to the revitalisation of te reo M\u0101ori.\u201d<\/p><p>Paraone Gloyne from Te W\u0101nanga o Aotearoa started Mahuru M\u0101ori as a personal social experiment in 2014. This year, Te Puni K\u014dkiri has formally supported the campaign along with Te M\u0101t\u0101wai and Te Taura Whiri i te Reo M\u0101ori.<\/p><p>\u201cTe Puni K\u014dkiri fully supports the drive towards re-establishing te reo M\u0101ori as a living language.
