{"id":4299,"date":"2025-05-14T02:48:45","date_gmt":"2025-05-14T02:48:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mahurumaori.com\/?p=4299"},"modified":"2025-08-06T02:51:24","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T02:51:24","slug":"a-full-circle-moment-from-tauira-to-kaiako","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mahuru-maori-twoa-ac-nz.azurewebsites.net\/mao\/a-full-circle-moment-from-tauira-to-kaiako\/","title":{"rendered":"A full circle moment from tauira to kaiako"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"4299\" class=\"elementor elementor-4299\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-9bcf291 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"9bcf291\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-75cba80\" data-id=\"75cba80\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4e97f01 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4e97f01\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Krystle Nikora (Rongowhakaata, T\u016bhoe, Ruapani, Ng\u0101ti Kahungungu) was raised within te ao M\u0101ori and her mother was fluent in te reo M\u0101ori, but her passion for the culture and te reo blossomed only when she enrolled at Te W\u0101nanga o Aotearoa.<\/p><p>Her learning journey began in 2019 as a tauira of\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.twoa.ac.nz\/nga-akoranga-our-programmes\/te-reo-maori-maori-language\/certificate-in-te-ara-reo-maori-level-1-and-2\">He P\u012b Ka Pao Level 1 &amp; 2<\/a>.<\/strong> Now in 2025 she is a dedicated kaiako, teaching\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.twoa.ac.nz\/nga-akoranga-our-programmes\/te-reo-maori-maori-language\/certificate-in-te-ara-reo-maori-level-3-and-4\">He P\u012b Ka Rere Level 3 &amp; 4<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>at the Heretaunga campus of Te W\u0101nanga o Aotearoa.<\/p><p><em>\u201cI love my job, the classes feel like one big party. My role allows me to immerse myself in te reo M\u0101ori and my experience as a tauira helps me to better understand the needs of my tauira,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>says Krystle.<\/p><p>Enrolling as a tauira was a daunting experience for Krystle, however, with encouragement from her kaiako she gained the confidence to take the first steps to commit to the programme.<\/p><p>From there she progressed through to\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.twoa.ac.nz\/nga-akoranga-our-programmes\/te-reo-maori-maori-language\/te-aupikitanga-ki-te-reo-kairangi\">Te Aupikitanga ki te Reo Kairangi Level 6<\/a>,<\/strong> where her skills and dedication stood out.<\/p><p>Her talent was recognised by kaiako Denise Keelan who recommended she apply for a kai\u0101whina role and in 2021 she secured the position and later transitioned to becoming a kaiako.<\/p><p>As Krystle reflects on her full circle journey, she highlights how grateful she is to be an integral part of the wh\u0101nau at Te W\u0101nanga o Aotearoa making an impact in the classroom as a kaiako.<\/p><p>She hopes to see others succeed in their reo M\u0101ori studies and her advice to aspiring kaiako is heartfelt, sharing her tohu,\u00a0<em>\u201cyou are good enough.
